Divine Touch

04/1/02

Who inspires the caterpillar
To desert her coarse grains
For the enveloping
Warmth of a cocoon?
Why else does she surrender
To the bitter sweet pain
of emergence
Save the ecstatic dances
Of butterflies?

Who sings the songs
Willfully curving plant Spines
To flickers of light?
Why else do they melt
In the most delightful Contortion
Save the splendor of the
Sun’s embrace?

Who gave the blind man,
Vision to penetrate
Heart rending beauty?

Who allowed the deaf to
Orchestrate the most
Poignant songs of life?

Who can tell of the tragic
Torment of separation
Save the darkened gloom
Of an eclipsed moon?

Who else can speak of
The woeful tale of
Withering death
Save rusting meadows
With rich green
Remembrances?

Can sand filled shells
Recall echoes of
Ocean depths?

Does luscious Hawaii
sigh when reminiscing
Her smoldering
On Pacific’s floor?

Can you really describe the
Boundless generosity of the
Tropical sun to one contently
Wrapped in Winter cloaks?

Show me the one that
Can feel the Depth
Of a lover’s rapture
Save the Adored?

Who emptied this vessel
Out and Filled it with awe?

Who am I to divulge
Secret delights Sparked
Within this Yearning soul?

Do you have the gallantry
To slay all that
Is for show?

Who will inspire you to
Scale heights
Many have joyfully died
trying Before?

Is it the tumultuous depths
you yearn to Explore,
Or are you safer frolicking
On life’s empty sea shores?
